Spring tans arrive early

Lamb-like March gives leg up on sun season

Get out your SPF 50 and dark shades - spring skiing has made an early debut at Sunshine Village.

This week's sunny and mild temperatures have created almost ideal conditions for spring skiing and riding, providing for wickedly fast cruising off sun-sparkled groomers. The Rogers Terrain Park, too, is hopping with activity.
March came in like a lamb this year, giving skiing and boarding enthusiasts an early jump on one of the favourite times of the year at Alberta's most popular ski and snowboard resort. Seated high in the Canadian Rockies on the Continental Divide, Sunshine offers the best spring skiing in Canada.

"I was on the slopes yesterday, and they were a blast," says Doug Firby, associate director of communications. "The snow is so crisp and fast."

All 12 lifts and 100 runs are wide open, and will stay that way for many weeks yet.

Over the coming 15 days, weather forecasts predict lots of sun and temperatures just below freezing - the perfect way to maintain optimum conditions. Cool overnight temperatures ensure Sunshine will hang onto its 130 cm settled snow pack right through until the May 24 Slush Cup weekend. And, as Sunshine fans know, every fresh snowfall is pure bonus.
The early jump on spring is all the more reason to grab the best bargain in the Rockies - Sunshine's Spring Pass Sale. Adults can ski from March 21 until May 24 for just $357, and students, seniors and mid-week passes are available for just $287.
